LeadsBuck vs Apollo.io for Agencies (2026): Contact Database or Website-Gap Prospecting?

Apollo.io and LeadsBuck both help you find prospects and email them, but they come at the problem from opposite ends. Apollo starts from a very large B2B contact database and gives sales teams sequences, intent data, a dialer and warm-up on top. LeadsBuck starts from the businesses themselves: it finds companies by industry and location, has AI check each website for gaps, and drafts a pitch about those gaps that you send from your own mailbox. Below is how that difference plays out for a web, SEO or marketing agency.

Disclosure: LeadsBuck is our product. Apollo details come from apollo.io as of October 15, 2026 (see Sources at the end). Pricing and features change, so check apollo.io before you buy.

The short answer

Pick Apollo if your buyers are specific people (a VP of Marketing, a Head of Ops) at mid-size or larger companies, because you need its contact data, intent signals and team features. Pick LeadsBuck if your buyers are small and local businesses whose website problems you can see and fix: a dentist with no booking page, a restaurant with a slow site, a contractor that AI search can't read. In that case the pitch matters more than the database.

Choose LeadsBuck if…

  • You sell web, SEO, marketing or automation services to small and local businesses
  • You want each pitch to mention a real gap on the prospect's own website
  • You'd rather send a few dozen thoughtful emails from your own mailbox than thousands of templated ones
  • You want prospecting plus LinkedIn, X, Facebook and Instagram scheduling in one plan

Choose Apollo if…

  • You need named decision-makers with verified emails and phone numbers
  • Buying intent signals and job-title filters drive your targeting
  • You need built-in warm-up, a dialer and a Chrome extension
  • Several people on your team prospect and need their own seats

Where Each Tool Is Stronger

Apollo: data, intent and team scale

Apollo's core asset is its database. Its homepage lists 240M+ contacts and 30M+ accounts, and its plans add buying-intent topics, advanced filters, waterfall enrichment, AI lead scoring, unlimited sequences, a deliverability suite with warm-up, a US dialer, call recording and a Chrome extension. If you need to reach the marketing director at a 200-person company, LeadsBuck can't match that, and we don't pretend it can. Apollo is also built for teams: per-seat plans, shared sequences and CRM integrations.

LeadsBuck: the reason to reach out

Agencies that sell to small businesses usually don't lack contacts. They lack a credible reason to email. LeadsBuck is built around that loop. You pick an industry and a city, and it discovers matching businesses from Google Places and the web (1 CRM credit per business saved; duplicates are skipped). AI then analyzes each website and records an SEO score, an AI-search readiness (AEO) score, missing basics such as an llms.txt file, and a fit score for your service. The pitch it drafts is built on those findings, and you review it before sending from your own mailbox over SMTP, one at a time or as a campaign, with templates and follow-up sequences. Replies and stages live in the pipeline.

Deliverability: an honest gap

Apollo includes warm-up and a deliverability suite on paid plans. LeadsBuck has no warm-up, inbox rotation or sending-domain purchasing. It sends from the mailbox you connect, so your domain's reputation is on the line. That works for low-volume, high-relevance outreach. If you plan to send thousands of cold emails a day, use a dedicated sending tool. Our Instantly alternatives guide covers those.

AI assistants and MCP

Both companies offer an MCP server. LeadsBuck's hosted MCP server comes with every paid plan and exposes the same prospecting loop as the dashboard, including discover_businesses, analyze_lead, create_lead and campaign tools. That means you can ask Claude, Cursor or other MCP-compatible assistants to “find 10 physiotherapy clinics in Leeds without a booking page and draft pitches”. See the AI agents page for setup.

Using both

Some agencies use Apollo to find a decision-maker's email at a larger prospect and LeadsBuck to find and audit local businesses. Because LeadsBuck sends from your own mailbox, it doesn't conflict with whatever else you send from.

How LeadsBuck works in four steps

  1. Discover businesses by industry and location (Google Places + the web)
  2. Analyze each website: SEO score, AEO score, gaps, fit score
  3. Pitch with an email built on those gaps, sent from your own mailbox
  4. Track replies and next steps in the pipeline

Frequently asked questions

Is LeadsBuck an Apollo.io alternative?

For some agencies, yes. Apollo is a sales platform built around a large B2B contact database (240M+ contacts and 30M+ accounts, per apollo.io in October 2026), plus sequences, intent data, a dialer and email warm-up. LeadsBuck is narrower: it finds local and small businesses from Google Places and the web, has AI check each website for gaps, and drafts a pitch based on those gaps that you send from your own mailbox. If you sell web, SEO or marketing services to small businesses, LeadsBuck can replace Apollo for that job. If you sell to named roles inside mid-size or enterprise companies, Apollo is the stronger tool.

Does LeadsBuck have a contact database like Apollo?

No. LeadsBuck does not sell access to a pre-built B2B contact database, and it does not offer verified mobile numbers. It discovers businesses on demand from Google Places and the web for the industry and location you choose, then saves them to your pipeline.

Which is cheaper for a one-person agency, LeadsBuck or Apollo?

At entry level they cost about the same. Apollo Basic starts at $49 per seat per month billed annually, as of October 2026, and Apollo also has a free plan. LeadsBuck Seed is $49 per month for one user, and LeadsBuck Free includes 25 CRM credits a month. Apollo charges per seat, so costs grow with every teammate. LeadsBuck plans are single-user today.

Does Apollo or LeadsBuck include email warm-up?

Apollo lists a Deliverability Suite and email warm-up on its paid plans. LeadsBuck does not include warm-up or inbox rotation. It sends through your own mailbox over SMTP, so you should set up SPF, DKIM and DMARC and keep daily volume modest.

Can I use LeadsBuck and Apollo from Claude or other AI assistants?

Both offer an MCP server. LeadsBuck's hosted MCP server is included on paid plans and exposes tools such as discover_businesses, analyze_lead, create_lead and create_campaign, so you can run prospecting from Claude, Cursor or other MCP-compatible assistants. Apollo lists an Apollo MCP product on its website.
